Williamsport (2-3) at Coughlin (4-1)
7 p.m. today
The Coaches: Williamsport’s Kevin Choate (2-13, 2nd year); Coughlin’s Ciro Cinti (44-38, 8th year)
Last Meeting: Coughlin 36-8 in 2012
All-Time Series: Williamsport leads 28-18
Quick Fact: The teams first played in 1900, with Williamsport winning 11-0.
Scouting Williamsport: The Williamsport offense finally found the end zone for the first time since Week 1 in last Saturday’s 21-7 victory over Dallas, which has a pretty solid defense. QB Dale Berkheimer threw the team’s first touchdown pass of the season. RB Isaac Foust grinded out 81 yards, his best performance since a 186-yard game against Central Mountain in the opener. The defense had its best game, surrendering just 73 yards, but it came against the WVC’s worst offense.
Scouting Coughlin: The Crusaders had upset thoughts last Friday as they trailed Wyoming Valley West 21-14 at halftime. But more turnovers than a bakery doomed Coughlin in the 56-14 loss. The four fumbles equaled the total through the first four games. The defense gave up 271 yards on the ground and 185 through the air, both season highs. It gave up big plays as well as three Valley West touchdowns were of 46 yards or more.
What To Expect: Williamsport has done a better than expected job on defense and that’s how it will have to win this game. Coughlin, though, is better on both sides of the ball and it’s unlikely an upset will occur.
