DUNMORE- Scranton Prep held off a late comeback attempt by Abington Heights to defeat the Comets, 21-13, in a Lackawanna League Division 1 battle of unbeatens Saturday at Dunmore Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Prep tailback Pat Marino, who rushed for 147 yards on 36 carries, scored on a 3-yard run to give the Cavaliers a 21-7 advantage with 7:17 left in the fourth quarter.

“My line is the best in the league,” Marino said. “They opened holes, and down at the goal line there was so much room to run.”

Abington Heights quarterback J.C. Show connected with fullback Quinn Karam for a 22-yard touchdown to cut the Scranton Prep lead to eight with 4:37 remaining in the game, but Show’s throw on fourth-and-11 from the Scranton Prep 46-yard line fell incomplete to seal the Cavaliers win.

The Comets struck first when Show hit Nate Hollander for a 28-yard score just 62 seconds into the game.

Cavaliers quarterback Nick Solfanelli found Cory Kopicki on a screen pass for a 15-yard touchdown on the ensuing drive.

Scranton Prep kicker Alex Rieder connected on field goals of 22 and 39 yards.
