Meyers (2-5) at Northwest (5-2)
7 p.m. today
The Coaches: Meyers’ Corry Hanson (10-18, 3rd year); Northwest’s Carl Majer (39-24, 6th year)
Last Meeting: Meyers 14-13 in 2012
All-Time Series: Meyers leads 5-3
Quick Fact: Meyers won last year by scoring a touchdown with 2:35 to play.
Scouting Meyers: It was another close loss for Meyers as it fell 14-8 to Wyoming Area last Saturday. The Mohawks have loss four games by six points or less. QB Matt DeMarco hurt his ankle two weeks ago and aggravated it, limiting him to two carries. WR Zahir Dunell filled in at quarterback admirably, but filling one hole created another. The offense didn’t cross the goal line as the only TD came via a punt return by Raheem Twyman. The defense did a pretty good job against the run, but couldn’t get that big stop when needed.
Scouting Northwest: The 38-27 loss to Lake-Lehman last Friday probably cost the Rangers a shot at the WVC Division 2A-A title, but they are still firmly entrenched in the District 2 Class A playoffs. RB Austin Mazonkey was bottled up and Northwest resorted to the pass with some effectiveness as QB Logan Womelsdorf threw three TD passes for a second consecutive game. The defense suffered a big setback when LB Adam Schechterly suffered a neck injury. He is a very big part of what the Rangers want to do to stop opponents.
What To Expect: Really, it’s hard to tell. If DeMarco can go, then the Mohawks have a good chance of knocking off the Rangers. If not, then it will be tough to pull off the upset.
