Berwick (9-0) at Hazleton Area (3-6)

7 p.m. today

The Coaches: Berwick’s George Curry (432-92-5, 44th year); Hazleton Area’s Jim Drumheller (8-21, 3rd year)

Last Meeting: Berwick 49-7 in 2012

All-Time Series: Berwick leads 46-24-2

Quick Fact: Hazleton Area managed just 87 yards of total offense in last year’s loss.

Scouting Berwick: The Dawgs seized control in the second half last Friday to defeat Coughlin 39-7. QB C.J. Curry hit on nine of his last 10 passes for 166 yards and three TDs, all in the second half. The running game showed diversity with Curry, FB Jorden Stout and RB Dain Kowalski. The defense was at it again, limiting Coughlin to 126 yards on the ground. Only Dallas has done a better job against the Crusaders. The pass rush was strong with four sacks. The Dawgs are seeking their first perfect regular season since 2000.

Scouting Hazleton Area: The Cougars trailed unbeaten East Stroudsburg South by seven late in last Friday’s game before falling 40-27. The defense fell victim to TD runs of 74 and 77 yards as it surrendered 352 yards on the ground. It was the third time an opponent topped 300 yards rushing. RB Zach Zuchoski paced the offense with 160 yards rushing. He needs 42 more to hit 1,000. Joey Blazick had an interception and fumble recovery, the latter setting up the Cougars 16 yards from the end zone late in the game but they failed to score.

What To Expect: This could be a dangerous game for Berwick. Hazleton Area has shown signs of putting it all together, but still isn’t quite there. If this is the night the Cougars do, it could get interesting.
