Nanticoke (4-5) at Hanover Area (4-5)
7 p.m. today
The Coaches: Nanticoke’s Ron Bruza (15-23, 4th year); Hanover Area’s Ron Hummer (38-48, 8th year)
Last Meeting: Nanticoke 28-12 in 2012
All-Time Series: Nanticoke leads 47-36-6
Quick Fact: Nanticoke QB J.T. Levandowski had three TD runs in last year’s win.
Scouting Nanticoke: The Trojans find themselves in the playoff hunt, albeit the odds of making the D2-2A tournament are very slim. A win, though, would earn them an Eastern Conference berth and their first trip to the postseason since 1999. Nanticoke ground out a 16-7 win over GAR last Friday, with RB Pat Hempel gaining 243 yards. He has rushed for nearly 700 yards over the last four games. DB Tyler Myers came up big with three interceptions as Nanticoke forced a season-high five turnovers.
Scouting Hanover Area: The Hawkeyes are in the same boat as Nanticoke, with a slightly better chance of making the D2-2A playoffs or the Eastern Conference a distinct possibility. That’s because Hanover Area has dropped two in a row, including a 43-6 loss to Lake-Lehman last Friday. WR Elido Veras caught three passes for a career-high 109, but little of anything else worked on offense. The defense allowed 344 yards on the ground, its worst effort since surrendering 400 to Lakeland in Week 3. The Hawkeyes last postseason appearance was in 2010.
What To Expect: This game is the toughest to figure out. Both teams have been up and down on a weekly basis, and that’s the main reason neither has the upper hand for a D2-2A playoff berth. Could come down to a break or two.
