Pittston Twp. Rec appreciates help
The Pittston Township Parks and Recreation Board would like to thank Kingston Borough for the use of its bucket truck recently to re-install holiday street light decorations.
In particular, we’d like to thank Mayor Jim Haggerty, Borough Administrator Paul Keating and Councilman Mike Jacobs, who immediately secured the bucket truck so that our community could enjoy the holiday lights.
This quick action shows that communities can work well together and that we reside in a great area.
Turkey Bingo hits spot in M-top
Mountaintop Knights of Columbus Grand Knight Louis Konopelski and Chairman Tom Cook want to thank everyone who attended the council’s annual turkey bingo.
Tom Cook, Brian Craine and Millard Twardowski express their gratitude to the area businesses and individuals who donated prizes and those who supplied baked goods for the bake sale.
Proceeds will enable the council to continue supporting community charities.
Nurses show compassion
In October, my mother, Elizabeth Adamczyk, was admitted to Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre. After a brief stay in an acute care unit on the fourth floor, she was transferred to the skilled nursing facility on the fifth floor, and subsequently to Hospice Community Care on the second floor.
I would like to express my sincere thanks to the nurses of all of those units. They cared for my mother and went above and beyond to care for our family. When my mother’s sister was admitted to the hospital at this same time, the nurses arranged for her to share a room with my mother.
When my mother was transferred to Hospice Community Care, the nurses brought my aunt from the skilled nursing unit to visit with her.
As a nurse, I was impressed to see that there is still a great deal of caring in the profession. I would like to say thank you for making this difficult time more bearable for me and my family.
Angels of mercy at hospital stay
This letter acknowledges the great care that was given to me at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre. I was a patient there from Sept. 28 to Oct. 20.
Every doctor (and there were many) that took care of me, including all nurses in every department, were truly angels of mercy. The physical therapists went out of their way with all of us heart patients.
If and when you need a hospital at any time, I suggest Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre. Even the food was great and the people who delivered it were the best.
I could go on and on. It was the best care I ever had.
City rises to meet flooding challenge
Last month, the city of Wilkes-Barre experienced its fourth flood emergency in three years. A remarkable 3 inches of rain doused the city and surrounding areas in just under three hours, creating hazardous conditions during one of the busiest times of the day. During each severe storm, the city’s resources and manpower have been strained. However, our spirit has never been weakened as a result of the outstanding support we have received from community partners.
I would like to commend the emergency services workers who provided assistance during the emergency, including members of the police, fire and public works departments. Thank you to Jeffrey Namey and the Wilkes-Barre Area School District for accommodating displaced city residents during the emergency at GAR High School.
In addition, I would like to thank the city residents who braved the heavy rains to assist their neighbors collecting leaves and unclogging storm drains. Please be assured that the city frequently evaluates its procedures and is committed to providing efficient, effective municipal services for residents.
I look forward to building on the successes of 2006 to continue Wilkes-Barre’s renaissance into 2007. On behalf of my administration and the city, I would like to wish everyone a very happy, healthy holiday season.

Cordora thanks team, plans anew
I want to thank my campaign team for sticking by my side for the past 18 months throughout my quest to become state representative in the 120th Legislative District.
Their vision of America, just as mine, was to support the pro-life movement, our anti-gay marriage position, a fierce resistance to the greedy legislative pay raise, and the stand to keep taxes and unfair burdens on the working class down.
Cordora Campaign 2006 was an experience I will always cherish. We may have lost the election to liberal Phyllis Mundy, but we went down in the tradition of Ronald Reagan doing what is right rather than what is more popular.
Thanks to the 5,100 voters who supported our cause. What came after the original “Rocky” was a thing called the rematch!
Grula auction scores big hit
The Fourth Annual Jonathan Grula Memorial Foundation Auction was recently held at the Frog Pond Pub & Pizzeria, Coal Street, Wilkes-Barre. The event raised more than $7,000 for children with cancer.
Grula Foundation members would like to extend our deepest appreciation to Butch and Mary Jo Burke, owners of the Frog Pond, for sponsoring the auction. Our thanks also go to our DJ, Dennis of D&D Music, and our auctioneer, John Newhart.
Auction items were donated by dozens of businesses and individuals and we wish to thank them for their generosity. Last but not least, we want to thank everyone who attended the auction and supported the event.
