Here’s how the local wrestlers fared on Saturday, the third day of the PIAA Championships:
Mike Stuart, Benton/Northwest (120): In his fifth-place bout, he wrestled Triston Law from Forest Hills and lost via major decision, 10-0. Place: Sixth
Austin Harry, Lake-Lehman (132): In the third-place match against Tyler Vath from Saegertown, he won 5-2. Place: third
Logan Womelsdorf, Benton/Northwest (195): He wrestled for a fifth-place medal against Kyle Taylor from Boiling Springs and won 3-0. Place: Fifth
Jalen Palmer, Delaware Valley (132): In the third round of consolations against Franklin Regional’s Tyler Smith, a defending state champ, Palmer lost, 10-5 to fall into the seventh-place match, where he faced Tommy Stokes from Bensalem and won 7-2. Place: Seventh
Nathan Cheek, Wyoming Valley West (145): Against Big Spring’s Chad Wickard in the third consolation round he dropped a 3-1 decision to fall into the seventh-place bout where he faced Michael Hartman from Spring Grove and lost, 4-3. Place: Eighth.
Matt Carr, Abington Heights (160): He faced Central Mountain’s Chad Reese in the third round of consolations and won 3-1 to advance to the fourth round of consolations where he faced Titusville’s Ehrin Lee and won 2-1 to reach the third-place match where he wrestled Jonathan Avon from North Hills and lost, 7-3. Place: Fourth
Connor Martinez, Dallas (170): In the third round of consolations against John Dambro from Garnet Valley and lost 5-1. He moved into the seventh-place match and wrestled Idris White from Father Judge and lost, 8-4. Place: Eighth
Ryan Monk, Dallas (285): In his morning semifinal against Pat Finn from Pottsgrove he lost 6-2 to fall into the fourth round of consolations where he met Tracey Green from Methacton and lost 5-2 to fall into the fifth-place match, where he met Scot Augustine from McDowell. His match was not wrestled before press time.
