Here’s how the area wrestlers fared on Thursday, the first day of the PIAA Wrestling Championships

Wyoming Valley Conference

CLASS 2A

Colin Pasone, Meyers (106): In the first round, he was pinned by Boiling Springs’ Jalin Hankerson in 2:39. He wrestles next in the second round of consolations today against Logan Pirl from Ligonier Valley.

RJ Driscoll, Lake-Lehman (120): In the preliminary round, he lost to Bermudian Springs’ Austin Clabaugh 16-3. In the first round of consolations, Driscoll lost 10-6 against Caleb Garland from Hanover.

Charlie Johnson, Wyoming Area (126): Defeated Pen Argyl’s Chase Anklam, 9-8 in triple overtime to reach the quarterfinals where he will take on Stone Kepple from Derry Area this morning.

Derek Dragon, Lake-Lehman (170): Pinned Northern Lebanon’s Evan Daub in 4:35 in the first round. He meets Beth-Center’s Anthony Welsh in today’s quarterfinals.

TJ Cistrunk, Meyers (182): Beat Garrett Reinwald from Fort LeBoeuf, 3-2 in the first round. Up next is a match with Corey Hazel from Penns Valley in the quarterfinals.

Zac Faust, GAR (195): Dropped a tough match in the first round getting pinned in 5:58 by Luke Fournier from Elizabeth Forward. In the first round of consolations, he was eliminated with another loss, 3-1 to Burrell’s Robert Scherer.

Saul Wilkins, GAR (285): Knocked off Brandywine’s Collin Conrad, 3-0 to reach the quarters where he will face Keystone’s Tyler Beal.

CLASS 3A

Chris Lasecki, Hazleton Area (113): Pinned in the pigtail round in 1:01 by Jersey Shore’s Hunter Zondory. He then wrestled Luke Carty from Bethlehem Catholic in the first round of consolations and was eliminated after a 12-3 loss.

Jimmy Wright, Wyoming Valley West (120): Lost to Wyatt Long from Cumberland Valley, 5-1 in the pigtail round and was eliminated when he fell 11-0 to Micah Visuwan from Pennridge in the first round of consolations.

Jimmy Hoffman, Hazleton Area (126): Dropped a first-round match to Boyertown’s Lucas Miller, 4-3 to fall into the consolation round. In today’s loser’s bracket round, Hoffman will see James Harkness from Exeter Township.

Dan Ritz, Crestwood (138): Knocked off General McLane’s Giovanni Ciotti, 4-2 in the first round to reach the quarterfinals, where he will face Franklin Regional’s Dom Giannangeli.

Cody Cordes, Wyoming Valley West (160): Pulled out a 4-3 double overtime victory over Pittsburgh Central Catholic’s Tony Palumbo to reach the quarterfinals. Cordes will meet Alex Elliott from Sun Valley in the quarters.

Derek Spachman, Hazleton Area (182): Knocked off Kyle Sult from General McLane, 11-4 in the first round. In today’s quarterfinals he will meet Kellen Stout from Mount Lebanon.

Jake Vaxmonsky, Pittston Area (220): In the pigtail round, he pinned General McLane’s Ian Mallory in overtime in 6:24 to advance to the first round where he was pinned by Boyertown’s Jordan Wood. In his third match of the day, he defeated Mike Fine from Belle Vernon, 3-2 to stay alive. In today’s second round of consolations, he takes on Reading’s Matt Reinhart.

Ryan Monk, Dallas (285): Pinned Bruce Graeber from Neshaminy in 4:34 in the first round to reach today’s quarterfinals where he will take on Zach Jablonski from Montour.

Lackawanna League

CLASS 2A

Thor Balavage, Scranton Prep (220): Lost via tech fall in the first round to Jacob Robb from Kittaning. In today’s second round of consolations, he will see Seth Hitchens from South Allegheny.

Cole Fuller, Western Wayne (220): Pinned in a pigtail match in 3:41 versus Kody Reichart from Kutztown. In the consolation round, he lost to Seth Hitchens from South Allegheny getting pinned in 2:47.

CLASS 3A

Stefhen Caple, West Scranton (106): Lost 6-4 in the pigtail round to Brett Kaliner from West Chester Rustin. He rebounded to win his first consolation match, 3-2 over Caleb Morris from Waynesburg.

Chase Gallik, Wallenpaupack (145): Defeated Trevor Corl from Bellefonte in the first round with a pin in 5:47. In today’s quarterfinals he will face Alex Klucker from East Pennsboro.

Kazim Bakhriyev, Scranton (152): Beat Zach Dellicompagni from Coatesville, 5-3 in the first round to reach the quarters, where he wrestles defending state champion Vincenzo Joseph from Pittsburgh Central Catholic.

Niyaz Bakradze, Scranton (170): Pinned by Manheim Central’s Jared Siegrist in the first round. He takes on Ethan Laird from General McLane in the second round of consolations today.

Jared Wehrmann, Wallenpaupack (182): Defeated by Boyertown’s Gregg Harvey, 6-4 in the first round to drop into the consolation bracket where he will meet Josh Bahr from West Allegheny today.

Matt Wagner, Delaware Valley (195): Picked up a 10-1 win over Eli Grape from Upper St. Clair to advance to today’s quarters where he will wrestle defending champion Jan Johnson from Governor Mifflin.

Northwest/Benton Class 2A

Alan Diltz (106): Won his first-round match by fall in 5:37 over Derrick Christie from Westmont-Hilltop to reach today’s quarterfinals where he will face Abe Guariello from Fort LeBoeuf.

Mike Stuart (126): In the first round, defeated Grant Bond from Boiling Springs 3-2. He will take on Seth Hogue from Reynolds in today’s quarterfinals

Anthony Vitale (132): Lost 2-1 to Freedom’s Kody Komara in the first round. In today’s second consolation round, he will face Jason Jones from Saucon Valley.

Dominic Vitale (152): Defeated Paul Zacherl from Cranberry, 10-6 to advance to the quarters where he will see unbeaten Michael Communale (32-0).

Logan Womelsdorf (195): Picked up career win No. 100 with a fall in 2:28 over Toby Cahill from Berlin-Bros in the first round. Womelsdorf will face Alek Hummell, from North Schuylkill in today’s quarterfinals.
