Progressives often voice their opposition to tax cuts that favor the wealthy. What doesn’t get enough attention is that progressives also oppose any permanent tax cuts for the lower and middle classes.
One critical ideal at the center of progressive thought is a belief in excessive government spending. Progressive politicians are addicted to public spending, and this addiction requires an extremely large revenue base. The vast amount of revenue needed to support a progressive government makes it impossible to cut taxes for any workers, including the poor. Anyone who disputes this must believe the taxpayers can have a free lunch.
There is no free lunch; if progressives have their way, taxes will increase for all Americans, not only the rich.
