Volunteers in Medicine, students from Wilkes University’s Nesbitt School of Pharmacy and the Advocacy Alliance will offer two outreach sessions to educate community members and assist with marketplace sign-ups for the Affordable Care Act.

Sessions will be offered this Tuesday and next Tuesday, March 18, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Volunteers in Medicine, 190 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Wilkes-Barre. Walk-ins are welcome but individuals may schedule an appointment by calling 570-970-2864.

Those who do not have health insurance after March 31 may be assessed a penalty of $95, or 1 percent of income, whichever is higher, for the 2014 tax year, according to the act. After March 31, the next open enrollment period for Marketplace healthcare insurance is Nov. 15 through Jan. 15.

Individuals attending the March 11 or March 18 sessions should bring their Social Security numbers or document information for immigrants with satisfactory status, employer and income information for everyone in the household and federal tax information.

Attendees will receive assistance in determining their eligibility for tax credits that can be applied toward premiums on the Marketplace, reviewing marketplace options, and help signing up for an insurance plan that day.
