The new municipal building’s heating system was the area of focus during the Dalton Council meeting on March 13.

Board member Bill Montgomery listed a few maintenance agreement bids the council has received so far.

According to Montgomery, T.E. Spall & Son gave a bid for $323 per year and Rite Temp made a bid for $428 per year.

“We have a unique heating system in here,” Montgomery said. “We have a heat pump, which does the heating and air conditioning for the first floor.”

Montgomery said he’s waiting for two more bids from other maintenance companies. He said he’ll wait for the other bids to be made before making a decision.

In other business, president Gus Vlassis listed quotes from H.F. Wolfe Co., a commercial printing company located in Dalton, to put up a sign on the municipal building. Vlassis said Wolfe’s quotes were: a panel vinyl for $125; a molded plastic for $240 and metal blocks for $581.

Board member Lorraine Daniels suggested the metal one will be the best to last through years.

“I don’t know how the others stand up to weather,” she said.

The board members decided to wait to get more details about the materials before making a decision.

During public forum, former board member Susan Davidson asked board members if they’re charging the Dalton Fire Co. for the generator since the fire company is charging them for their garage. Montgomery said the board is not charging the fire company anything.

“Why not? They are charging us $8,000 for a building,” Davidson asked. “It was supposed to be an even exchange I thought back in August.”

“In an executive session, we came to an agreement that we were going to pay $8,000” Montgomery said.

In his mayor’s report, Aaron Holzman said that as the weather breaks and people plan summer events, they can get a pavilion request form to reserve the pavilion at Dalton Streamside Park for a special event. The request forms will be available in the office of the municipal building and the price is the same as last year: $100 deposit with $50 for inspection of the premises.
