PLAINS TWP. — State police Gaming Enforcement Office at the Mohegan Sun casino charged a Scranton man with jumping over a closed bar and stealing three liquor bottles and a tip box.
Chad Jimmy Waiters, 40, of North Irving Avenue, is charged with criminal trespass, theft, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief. The charges were filed with District Judge Diana Malast in Plains Township and mailed to Waiters on Monday.
According to the criminal complaint:
Surveillance cameras recorded a man loitering near a cashier’s cage at 3:45 a.m. Feb. 25. The man stayed near the cage for two minutes before taking a slot-attendant tip box from the cage wall and going into a restroom. The man left the restroom without the box at 3:50 a.m.
State police said the box was found damaged inside the restroom.
At 4 a.m., the man is recorded jumping over the bar at the closed Alpha Bar and trying to access the cash register. He was recorded entering the storage area behind the bar and leaving with bulky items consistent with the shape of liquor bottles under his jacket, the complaint says.
The man walked into a restroom at 4:10 a.m. and emerges at 4:21 a.m. without the bulky items under his jacket but with his socks over his pant legs, according to the complaint.
State police said Waiters was identified by surveillance cameras and by casino employees.
Waiters allegedly told state police he was at the casino in the early-morning hours on Feb. 25 but could not remember any of the events because he was extremely intoxicated, the complaint says.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled May 6.
