Workers began to demolish the rear side of Blessed Sacrament Church on East Main Street in Wilkes-Barre early Thursday morning. The church was closed in 2010 as part of the extensive parish restructuring the 11-county Diocese of Scranton announced in 2007. The parish was consolidated with St Dominic, St. Francis of Assisi and St. John The Baptist parishes to form St. Benedict Parish, holding services in the St. Dominic church site.
