WILKES-BARRE – The city is kicking off its summer events with the opening of the Farmers’ Market, city park activities and Kistler Elementary Pool.
“We’re gearing up for another terrific summer in the City of Wilkes-Barre,” Mayor Thomas M. Leighton said in a press release. “From farmers markets, to summer celebrations, to tournaments held in public parks and fields, I hope all of our residents will take part in the family-friendly activities that are happening this year.”
The Farmers’ Market will open June 24 on Public Square. The weekly event will run every Thursday until Nov. 18. Attendees can purchase fresh produce, baked goods and flowers. There will be live music during most of the summer season.
Wilkes-Barre park activities also begin on June 21 and run from 10 a.m. until noon, Monday through Friday. There will be park staff to help organize games, activities and tournaments for playground-goers.
Playgrounds will also be open on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. . The program will conclude Aug. 27.
The Kistler Elementary Pool, 301 Old River Road, will open June 21 and be open from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily. Season passes per person for the pool are available in City Hall, 40 E. Market St. for $7 for Wilkes-Barre city residents and $20 for non-residents. Day passes are also available at the Kistler Pool at $2 per child and $2.50 per adult.
The pool will be open through Aug. 20.
