Election Day is Tuesday, May 20. There will be a slew of educational events and candidate debates, sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Lackawanna County and The University of Scranton’s Political Science Department.

All events are open to the public and will take place at The University of Scranton.

Tuesday, May 6, 7 p.m.

Ballot Question Explained –Proposed change to the form of government in Lackawanna County

Location: 228 Brennan Hall (Pearn Auditorium), The University of Scranton, Madison Ave. between Linden and Mulberry St.

A question will be put before the voters for a Yes or No vote to approve the recommendations of the Lackawanna County Home Rule Charter Study Commission.

Thomas Baldino, Ph.D.f,rom Wilkes University and other panelists explore potential impacts of the proposal to eliminate the three-commissioner system and replace it with an elected council and executive.

Thursday, May 8, 7 p.m. & 8:15 p.m.

Candidate Debates – 112th and 113th PA Legislative Districts

Location: Moskovitz Theater, 4th floor of DeNaples Center, The University of Scranton, Mulberry St.

7 p.m. – Democratic Candidates for the 112th Legislative District of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives: Three candidates will debate: Rep. Kevin Haggerty (incumbent 112th district); Rep. Frank Farina (incumbent 115th district), and Robert Munley (challenger). Due to redistricting, incumbent candidates from the 112th and 115th districts will run in the May 2014 Primary for the 112th district.

8:15 p.m. – Democratic Candidates for the 113th Legislative District of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives: Two candidates will debate: Rep. Marty Flynn (incumbent) and Lee Morgan (challenger).
