Trees to light up on Public Square

Nearly 17,000 LEDs strung around 31 trees will get their official lighting debut Thursday evening on Public Square. The event begins at 7 with the switch flicked at sundown.


The lights were installed by the community group Bright Lights Fit City, one of five project groups from Leadership Wilkes-Barre. The groups are composed of area professionals participating in a nine-month program to develop leadership skills.


Bright Lights Fit City members are Joanne Wagner, Linda Rowe, Suzanne Concklin, Jason Wagner, Mary Lou Kotch and Mike Sisak. The new lights can be flipped from white to color for holidays. The group also plans to build a wheelchair-accessible outdoor gym in Kirby Park, thus the “fit city” half of the name.


The public is invited to attend the lighting.
