The oft-touted “work ethic” of people in Northeastern Pennsylvania is one thing. Dale Mikolaczyk, of Duryea, is quite another.

Mikolaczyk, on the radio every day as “Rusty Fender” with traffic reports and on Saturday nights as “Shadoe Steele” playing the oldies, takes the term work ethic to completely new standards. As he reveals on page 4 in a new Dispatch column titled “Sunday Sitdown,” he works seven days a week and almost 52 weeks a year. He takes just four vacation days each year.

His weekdays begin with rising at 3 a.m. He’s on the job at 4 a.m. and doesn’t stop working until 6 p.m. But Saturdays are his long days. He works 18 hours every Saturday. Sundays are half days, with work from 10 to 4.

All of this would be good to remember the next time the boss asks us to work overtime.
