A Schuylkill County man fishing the Lehigh River near White Haven drowned when he was swept downstream on Thursday, state police at Hazleton said.

State police identified the man as Paul Phillip Oravec Sr., 63, of McAdoo.

Oravec was fishing with a friend and waded into the Lehigh River to fish near the White Haven and East Side Borough line that separates Luzerne and Carbon counties at about 4:30 p.m.

State police said Oravec was swept downstream in fast-moving rapids. His body was found about a mile downstream near a small island in the river in Kidder Township, Carbon County, state police said.

State police said an autopsy performed Friday at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest found Oravec had drowned. His death was ruled an accident.
