The state Bureau of Forestry is seeking the public’s help in an investigation of a large wildfire that was intentionally set.

The blaze damaged several private homes and scorched nearly 328 acres of private woodlands in Foster Township on Friday.

Hampered by wind and dry forest conditions, numerous local volunteer firefighters and Bureau of Forestry personnel scrambled to bring the wildfire under control. Helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft dropped fire retardant on the blaze.

“Fire damaged several homes and we were most fortunate more were not damaged or even completely lost. This fire was a serious threat to life and property,” Randall White of the Forest Fire Protection Division said.

Information can be forwarded to bureau Special Investigator Terry Smith at 717-362-1472 or terrsmith@pa.gov.
