WILKES-BARRE — City police arrested a woman they say filed a false report about a hostage situation on North Meade Street.
Simone Serima Jones, 29, of Coal Street, Wilkes-Barre, was charged with simple assault, harassment and false reports to incriminate another person. She was released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
Police said Jones called Luzerne County 911 at about 7:46 p.m. Saturday saying a man with a gun was holding a female hostage on North Meade Street.
Officers arrived finding Jones and her ex-boyfriend, Truman Jones, and no gun.
When asked why she reported Truman Jones had a firearm, Jones replied, “Because I needed you guys to get here faster,” according to the criminal complaint.
Jones told police she went to the North Meade Street residence to drop her children off at which time she and Truman Jones got into an argument, the complaint says.
Truman Jones told police Jones bite him on his bicep when he attempted to get her off his property. Jones claimed Truman Jones punched her in the face but police said she had no physical injuries to her, according to the complaint.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled on June 19 before District Judge Martin Kane in Wilkes-Barre.
