WILKES-BARRE —A woman from Edwardsville accused of abandoning dogs when she was evicted from a residence in Kingston Township was sentenced to 15 years probation on Thursday.

Karen Reilly, 50, of Heisz Street, was sentenced by Luzerne County Judge Joseph Sklarosky Jr.

Kingston Township police and the SPCA of Luzerne County charged Reilly in January after finding seven dead dogs and 11 live canines inside the Echo Valley Drive residence on Sept. 27, 2013. Reilly had been evicted from the residence in late August.

Authorities said the trailer was infested with maggots, flies, fleas and other insects and had a strong odor of urine, feces and rotting flesh. Fecal waste material was several inches deep in most areas inside the trailer and there was no food and water.

Reilly pleaded guilty to four first-degree misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals, 11 summery counts of cruelty to animals, seven summary counts of disorderly conduct, three summary counts of failing to have dogs vaccinated and 11 summary counts of failing to obtain dog licenses before she was sentenced.
