BERWICK — In an effort to keep up with the times, the Berwick Theater has gained non-profit status with the help of the Berwick United Way, according to a news release from the theater.

The theater needs to buy digital projection equipment to show many new releases; the equipment upgrade likely will cost more than $50,000.

“The first step was to listen to what the community wanted” Renee DiAugustine, theater manager and granddaughter of the late Vincent DiAugustine Sr., former theater owner. “So we hosted a community round table, and it is clear that the vision for our community is for the theater to become a hub for art, music, live theater and, of course, movies.”

Theater owners plan to unveil the theater’s new look at a celebration July 19, which also would be Vincent DiAugustine’s 90th birthday.

Tickets to the celebration cost $10, and may be purchased by calling Renee at 570-752-9070 or emailing her at renee@theberwicktheater.com.
