W-B man did not return rental

WILKES-BARRE — A Wilkes-Barre man admitted to one count of theft for failing to return equipment to a rental company in Dupont. Matthew E. Gockley, 28, entered the plea before county Judge Joseph Sklarosky Jr.

According to police, Gockley rented a 100-foot power snake and a snapper manual pipe from Grand Rental Station on Dec. 10, telling the store he would only need the items for four hours. An employee later told police he thought this was odd, as such equipment is typically rented for about a week.

When Gockley did not return the equipment, employees tried to reach him but found the number provided had been disconnected or changed. After two weeks, the store contacted police.

Gockley agreed as part of the plea to pay $1,900 in restitution to the store. Sentencing is set for Aug. 11.
