WILKES-BARRE — A woman reportedly suffered an accidental gunshot wound tonight at an apartment house on South Franklin Street.

Luzerne County 911 received a report at 8:23 p.m. relating that a woman was accidentally shot in Apartment 3 at 412 S. Franklin St., a 911 supervisor said.

Police on-scene said the victim was transported to an area hospital for a non-life-threatening wound.

Wilkes-Barre police Lt. Steve Olshefski said that based on initial reports, the woman suffered a “very minor” injury to her foot after someone dropped a gun on the floor, it discharged and a bullet struck the woman in her foot.

Police continue to investigate, but it does not appear that any charges would be filed, barring any incidence of unlawful gun possession, Olshefski said.
