SUGARLOAF TWP. — Two major highways in southern Luzerne County were closed for a brief time Wednesday morning when a 21-year-old man threatened to jump off a bridge, state police at Hazleton said.

The man threatened to jump from a bridge on state Route 93 that crosses Interstate 81 just before 7 a.m.

State police said the southbound lane of Interstate 81 and both lanes of Route 93 were closed for safety reasons.

The man surrendered to troopers and officers with Sugarloaf Township police.

State police said the highways reopened shortly after the man surrendered.
