WILKES-BARRE — St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 35 S. Franklin St., is happy to announce they will be hosting Lenten midday services starting next month.

Father Tim Alleman, Rector of St. Stephen’s, says the event has been, “tradition in downtown Wilkes-Barre for many years.” However, it was put on hold last year, after being canceled mid-season in 2020, citing COVID-19 concerns.

The first service will be Ash Wednesday, Mar 2., and they will continue every Wednesday through Holy Week on Apr. 13.

Services will begin at noon, after a half-hour organ recital at 11:30a.m. St. Stephen’s request that all attendees do wear masks while inside the church. In the past, these services did include a soup and sandwich lunch, however the Wilkes-Barre Downtown Ministerium has decided to hold off for another year.

While St. Stephen’s does host these services, they are presented by the aforementioned Ministerium.
