WILKES-BARRE — The search is on for an inmate who escaped from the Luzerne County Correctional Facility’s Minimal Offenders Building by climbing over a fence just after 11 a.m. Thursday.

City police joined correctional officers in searching woods along the Susquehanna River and Wilkes-Barre City and Hollenback cemeteries.

A police canine is being used in the search.

Kingston police is also searching the west side along Third Avenue and Church Street under the belief the inmate crossed the river.

City firefighters were called to dispatch their rescue boat into the river.

Correctional Services Division Head J. Allen Nesbitt identified the inmate as Kevin Kuklinski Jr., 24, last known address as White Haven. Kuklinski is listed on prison records as homeless.

Kuklinski is described as a white male, 6 feet tall, about 150 pounds, blue eyes and brown hair. He was admitted to the county correctional facility on June 29 for lack of $25,000 bail on charges of burglary, criminal trespass and theft, according to court records.
