WILKES-BARRE — A Luzerne County judge on Thursday extended a protection from abuse order against county council Chairman Rick Morelli.
Morelli’s attorney, Megan Maguire, confirmed that a PFA hearing scheduled for Aug. 21 was rescheduled to Thursday and that an agreement in the matter was reached. Beyond that, she declined comment.
Morelli confirmed that a protection order that his ex-girlfriend, Deanna Pickett, filed against him was extended until Jan. 31, and added that the agreement reached in no way was an admission of any wrongdoing. He said both parties agreed that they would not discuss the allegations with anyone except family members or attorneys.
“The reason why I agreed to the extension was that I have no interest in being involved with any of the parties in this matter and I don’t want this to cause my family any additional stress or anxiety as this plays out,” Morelli said.
Morelli also said that the PFA “is temporary for her and her child” and that “no one should ever question my heart when it comes to making decisions for Luzerne County, and I would never hurt anyone, especially a child.”
Pickett has alleged that Morelli stalked her numerous times and has refused to leave her alone. Morelli has alleged that the filing was politically motivated to hurt his reputation as a public official. Pickett could not be reached for comment.
