KINGSTON TWP. — A two-vehicle crash sent a motorcyclist to a hospital after his bike collided with a sport utility vehicle on Memorial Highway (state Route 309) in the Trucksville section of Kingston Township Monday afternoon.
Police early Tuesday morning identified the driver of the motorcycle as Anthony Hyznski, who was still in surgery at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township shortly after midnight.
Police at the scene said Hyzinski was taken to a hospital with “very serious injuries.”
The driver of the SUV, Austin Ricardi, also was taken to a hospital to be checked out, police said.
The crash occurred just after 4:30 p.m. at the intersection with the driveway to the Sheetz convenience store and Pendragon Plaza.
Octavier Kaufmann, of Dallas, told a reporter his sister’s boyfriend was driving the SUV.
Kaufmann, who went to the scene after the crash, said Drake told him he was he was stopped in the northbound turning lane, waiting to turn left into Sheetz, when the light for traffic on Route 309 turned red. So instead of blocking the intersection, Drake said he proceeded to turn left and the motorcyclist, who was driving south, failed to stop for the red light and struck his front bumper, Kaufmann said.
Police said a state police R&I unit was called to the crash scene, as was a Luzerne County assistant district attorney, and that it was determined no criminal charges would be filed, but both drivers would be issued various traffic code citations.
