Cops: Man ran over friend’s legs with truck

State police have charged a Tresckow, Carbon County, man with aggravated assault by vehicle and reckless endangerment alleging he ran over his friend’s legs with his pickup truck and then fled the scene.


Matthew Rish, 46, was arrested about two hours later in the Upper Lehigh area, his truck lodged in a snow bank. Rish also was charged with driving drunk.


According to a state police report:


The victim, Michael Crofcheck, 48, was stepping out of Rish’s truck just after 3 a.m. Friday along Ridge Street in Freeland when he fell with his legs winding up under the vehicle.


Crofcheck’s girlfriend told Rish where the man had fallen, but Rish disregarded her and backed up, passing over Crofcheck’s legs. Rish then put the vehicle in drive and accelerated rolling over Crofcheck’s legs with his front and rear tires.


Crofcheck was treated at an area hospital and released.


Charges against Rish were filed with district Judge Gerald L. Feissner.
