HAZLETON — Attorney General Kathleen Kane will be the featured speaker at the Hazleton Crime Watch meeting on Wednesday.
City police Chief Frank DeAndrea said in an email that the meeting venue has changed to a larger space because of Kane’s appearance. The Hazleton One Community Center, 225 E. 4th St, will host the meeting, which begins at 5:30 p.m., in the building’s gymnasium.
Kane is expected to speak about her newly formed Region 10 IMPACT Task Force, DeAndrea said.
“The IMPACT (Intensive Mobile Proactive Anti-Crime Team) has been working hard in the Hazleton Area for months. As you also may or may not be aware, this Task Force strategy is cutting edge and was not used prior to this in the Commonwealth,” DeAndrea said.
DeAndrea said Kane is attempting to keep this type of task force operational to roll across the commonwealth and rid many communities of drugs and violence.
“I believe that it is the Hazleton Area’s turn to assist General Kane. Please come to the meeting, hear what the General has to say and then, follow the simple plan to pay it forward. We owe all of the other small communities in Pennsylvania the same chance to be made better and we have the power to make that happen,” DeAndrea said.
“It is not often that we have a speaker of this magnitude speak at an Area Crime Watch Meeting and as such, I encourage you to come a bit early and bring a friend or two,” he said.
