The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission has since lifted the speed restrictions on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

Original story

Due to heavy snow and icy conditions, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission and the Pennsylvania State Police have implemented a speed limit restriction of 45 mph for all drivers on the entire turnpike system.

All motorists are urged to reduce their speeds and keep alert for changing travel conditions and emergency crews working on the roadway. Drivers should stay alert for areas of snow with poor visibility, and icy roadway conditions.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike asks motorists to allow plenty of space when driving near plow trucks. For the safety of drivers and snow plow operators, motorists should never attempt to pass a truck while it is plowing or spreading winter materials.
