WILKES-BARRE — A student at Wilkes-Barre Area’s GAR High School was arrested today on charges he stabbed a teenager after a basketball game last week.
Kevin Espinoza, 17, of South Sherman Street, Wilkes-Barre, was arraigned by District Judge Martin Kane in Wilkes-Barre on two counts of aggravated assault and a single count of simple assault. Kane set bail at $250,000 in which Espinoza’s attorney, Mark Mack, was trying to make arrangements to post bail through a bondsman.
City police allege Espinoza stabbed Luis Rosa, 17, several times in a fight on Lehigh Street after a basketball game at the high school on Feb. 19.
Rosa was driven in a private vehicle to Wilkes-Barre General Hospital and transferred to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township where he underwent surgery. Police said he was listed in serious condition.
