Frances Mary Wojtowicz, 91, of Apopka, Fla., formerly from Ashley, Pa., peacefully passed away in her sleep on Saturday, June 27, 2009.
Frances was born in Ashley, Pa., a daughter of the late Mary Brazitis and Jacob Tarutis. Frances graduated from Hanover Township High School and attended a year of college in the local area. She worked for Pomeroy’s at Wyoming Valley Mall in the sales/marketing department for a number of years and belonged to the Holy Rosary Church in Ashley, Pa., where she was very active in church activities.
She was married to the late Stanley M. Wojtowicz for 55 years. They had one daughter, Alice Jacobs, of Apopka, Fla. Frances lived with her daughter Alice and son-in-law Bill Jacobs until her death. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Apopka, Fla.
She also was very fond of the family dog, Mystique, who used to curl up in her lap and many times finish Grandma’s ice cream cone.
Frances’ eyesight was failing her the last few years of her life, and our pastor told her that Frances could see with her heart. Frances will be missed deeply by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Jacob and Leonard.
Besides her daughter and son-in-law, Frances is survived by her grandchildren, Anne Theresa Koelble and her husband, Ted; Michael Robert Prieto and his wife, Karen; and Robert Joseph Prieto and his wife, Melissa; six great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Caitlyn and Zachary Koelble; Michael and Tyler Prieto, and Joseph Stanley Prieto.

Funeral services will be held at George A. Strish Funeral Home, 105 N. Main St., Ashley, on Thursday, July 2, 2009, from 5 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St Leo’s/Holy Rosary Church, 33 Manhattan St., Ashley, on Friday at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be at St Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.
