Duryea Troop 285 will conduct an Eagle Scout Court of Honor Reception for Jonathon Paul Kamor, Duryea, son of Kathleen and Paul Kamor. The reception will be held on Sunday, March 23 at the American Legion Brennan Regan Post 585. The Veteran’s of the American Legion sponsors Duryea Boy Scout Troop 285.
Kamor is the grandson of Thomas and Catherine Sunick of Scranton, and Paul and Patricia Kamor of Wyoming. He received is Eagle Scout rank from the NEPA BSA Council in January. He is a senior at Pittston Area where he participates in track and field, ICE Club, and the Leo’s Youth Club. He plans to attend college majoring in Education with a focus in History and Special Education.
Kamor is a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Duryea, where he participated in the Youth Choir, assists the parish with special projects and received the Bishop’s Youth Lay Ministry Award.
He began is scouting career in 2002 with the Old Forge Cub Pack 98 as a Tiger Cub Scout and transferred to Duryea Cub Scout Pack 375 where he received the highest Cub Scout rank of Arrow of Light.
He joined the Duryea Boy Scout Troop 285 where he received his Boy Scout Badge and became a member of the Eagle Patrol.
Kamor attended several NEFA Council camporees in Pittsburgh and Boston. Over the last seven years, he attended Goose Pond Summer Camp, earned 36 merit badges and assisted with several Eagle Scout projects for his fellow scouts.
He has held various positions of responsibility including Den Chief, Scribe, and Chaplain Aide. Jonathon will receive his Assistant Scoutmaster Badge at the reception.
Kamor’s Eagle Scout project was done for the benefit of the Duryea Lions Club which sponsors the troop. In September 2013, with the help of fellow scouts, he refurbished numerous benches which are used for the benefit of the community while providing aesthetic beauty for the town.
He is a member of the Lowwapaneu Lodge 191 Order of the Arrow receiving his brotherhood in 2011. Kamor is Troop 285’s 23rd Eagle Scout since 1992.
