HARRISBURG — Three magisterial district judges serving in Luzerne County were recently recertified as members of Pennsylvania’s Unified Judicial System, the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts has announced.

District Judges Joseph A. Halesey, based in Hanover Township; Martin R. Kane, based in Wilkes-Barre; and Donald Whittaker, based in Nanticoke; were again certified for service following completion of continuing legal education course work in a week-long instructional program designed to ensure the judges remain current in a variety of legal topics and management techniques.

Continuing education course work is required by statute of each of the more than 500 Pennsylvania magisterial district judges, with approximately 50 judges attending one of 13 such classes during each academic year.
