Plans are now forming for Family Service Association of Northeastern Pennsylvania’s Sixth Annual Pauly Friedman 5K Family Walk/Run slated for Sunday, Aug. 10 at Misericordia University in Dallas.
According to Mike Zimmerman, Chief Executive Officer of FSA NEPA, Atty. Megan Kennedy, of Mountaintop, will serve as chairperson for this year’s event. Atty. Kennedy, herself an avid runner, currently serves as the secretary of the FSA NEPA Board of Directors and has been involved with the annual walk/run for the past several years.
Kennedy is the executive director for the First Federal Charitable Fund and has served in that position since 2004. She is also is a member of the Lower Luzerne County Bar Association and the Luzerne County Bar Association. In addition to her work with FSA NEPA, Kennedy serves on the King’s College President’s Council and Hazleton Rotary Foundation. She also serves on the Penn State Highacres Advisory Council, the Non-Profit Community Assistance Center and the Mountaintop Youth Soccer Association.
Kennedy is married to Judge Joseph Sklarosky Jr. and they have four children, Katie, Jack, Matthew and Norah.
Registration for the 3.1 mile event is at 8:30 a.m. at the Anderson Sports Complex of Misericordia University, with the race beginning at 9:30 a.m. Pre-registration is suggested with the first 300 registrants guaranteed an “official” event t-shirt. Walk-ups will be accepted on race day.
FSA NEPA holds this annual event in memory of Pauly Friedman, former board member at FSA NEPA, known to many in the community for her leadership, compassion and volunteerism.
Proceeds from the walk/run will benefit the vital services of Help Line/211, a free 24/7 information, referral and after hours crisis answering service. Persons needing to make specific inquiries regarding human services can now dial 211.
