The Holy Name Society of St. John the Evangelist Parish community recently announced its 2014-15 scholarship recipient. Molly Farrell, daughter of Ed and Mary Beth Farrell, is this year’s winner.


The Holy Name Society Awards a $1,000 scholarship annually to one active member of the Parish for college aid.


Yale Fellowship


Joseph D Buttacci, a 2014 summa cum laude graduate of the University of Scranton, was awarded a fellowship to Yale University where he will be pursuing a Ph.D in Chemical Engineering. Buttacci earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Mathematics.


He also received awards for Excellence in both Chemistry and Mathematics. He is the son of Joe and Flory Buttacci and the grandson of Blanche Buttacci, Dunmore, the late Dominick Buttacci, and the late Joe and Mary Piccillo, of Pittston.


Falcone graduates


Shannon Falcone recently graduated from St. Vincent Pallotti High School in Laurel, Md. and will be attending Washington College, also in Maryland, this coming fall.


Falcone is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Angelo (Amy) Falcone, and the late Susan McAndrews Falcone, Middleville Md. She is the grandaughter of Jack McAndrews and the late Joan McAndrews, Archbald, and Mr. and Mrs. Angelo (Barbara) Falcone, Laflin.


At Pallotti she participated in tack and cross country, while attaining the honor roll. She served as aide to the Athletic Director and assisted in managing the athletic website. She also assisted students as a tutor. In her junior year, she traveled to Belize on a mission trip, teaching elementary school and helping repair the school.


During the past year, she served as an instructor for fifth grade in the CCD program. At Washington College she plans to double major in Psychology and Business.


Dean’s List


Kristen Santey, Jenkins Township, was named to the Dean’s List at Wilkes University. Her name was inadvertently omitted for a listing that appeared in last week’s Dispatch.


Birthday wishes


Alana Aufiere, daughter of Mike and Patti Aufiere of West Pittston, will celebrate her 11th birthday on June 25. She has a sister Linnae, 23.
