Democrats Charles P. Musial, with 517 votes, Carole J. Samson, with 482, incumbent Diane Dwyer, with 409, and Republican incumbent Clarence Hogan, with 424, were the victors in the race for four, four-year seats on council, according to unofficial results.
Hogan ran in the primary election on the Democrat ballot and lost, but stayed in the race because he won the Republican nomination as a write-in.
Incumbent Edmund Sichler, 368 votes, was ousted.
Musial, 31, said he ran for council because some members took control and had back-door meetings.
“We’re going to come to some sort of agreement where no one is left in the dark,” Musial said.
Musial says he and other Democrats who ran plan to place a Drug Abuse Resistance Education officer in the Lake-Lehman School District, develop a public swimming area, bring back curbside recycling, and set rules and procedures for borough employees.
“My biggest thing is we’re going to be moving forward and definitely not backward,” Musial said.
A bipartisan Harvest Social was held at Harveys Lake Beach Club in October. Resident Sandra Serhan organized the event so members of the community could meet borough and county candidates.
Candidate Francis Kopko assisted with and was scheduled to be present at the occasion.
In recent months, council renamed all streets in the borough for emergency purposes.
Luzerne County and the U.S. Postal Service still need to approve the street name changes.
Council passed a motion in July restricting vehicles from parking on Marina Drive to provide better access for ambulances and firetrucks.
