HANOVER TWP. — Debbie Castrignano, a former employee of Metz Culinary Management, complained to the Hanover Area School Board Thursday about the quality of the food being served to the high school students.

Castrignano, who was a dishwasher in the high school’s kitchen, said that much of the food that is leftover is refrigerated and reheated and served the next day.

“The pizza is like cardboard when these kids get it,” she said.

Board President Joe Steininger said he has never received a complaint, but would look into the matter.

Last June, the district approved a one-year contract with Metz, with four additional one-year terms. Metz replaced Aramark, which was the district’s food service provider for 25 years.

In other business, the board:

• Recognized senior Kristie Swetts as March Student of the Month.

• Approved an agreement between the district and Volunteers of America regarding The Magnolia Project, a leadership and development program for girls in grades nine through 12.

• Appointed Betty C. Moreken as a speech therapist for a period of three months, three days a week at rate of $52 per hour.

The board also appointed the following extra-curricular personnel, as recommended by the athletic director for the 2014-2015 school year:

Jodi Amos, assistant junior high softball coach at a stipend of $1,478; Kyle Kreitzer, assistant varsity baseball coach at $2,145; James Hummer, assistant boys’ volleyball coach at $1,530; and Donald Pientka, assistant boys’ volleyball coach, unpaid.

The board approved the 2015-2016 school calendar and amended the 2014-2015 calendar. Graduation and the last day of school will be June 5, 2015.

The next school board meeting will be held on May 7.
