FAIRVIEW TWP. — The Board of Supervisors adopted a community-wide burn ban at Tuesday night’s regular monthly meeting.

The ban, which was unanimously agreed upon, is effective immediately and is being placed to lessen the possibility of severe property damage due to brush fires.

The ban will remain in effect until further notice from the Mountaintop Post Fire Company.

In other business, supervisors swore in Jim Banos as a part-time police officer and hired Timothy McGinnis as a temporary road worker.

The township will donate $150 toward an annual fireworks display on July 4, following a letter of request from nearby Wright Township. The event is popular among residents of the surrounding areas. A donation of $250 will also be made to the Crestwood High School PTSA for a Senior Lock-In event.

A letter from Luzerne County Solid Waste Management regarding electronics collections for 2015 was received. Collections will be held from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on June 6 at the Butler Township Fire Department, and on June 13 during the same time at Hanover Area Junior/Senior High School.
