At Leverage, we focus on a lot of self improvement. For myself and the Leverage team it’s a very important part of our day. We are a close-knit community where we share ideas, help and support people we care about and this includes getting involved in our community.

It’s easy to get wrapped up in our world, hustling through our days without realizing who we may be impacting either negatively or for the better. With the world moving at breakneck speed, we are constantly overloaded with information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We get caught up in the adrenaline of the day tending to focus on ourselves. We tend to become obsessed with material things like how we look, how nice our clothes are and if we have the latest version of the smart phones. I admit, I’m guilty of this, too.

Being super fit in all things that truly matter isn’t all that important. Fitting into your size 0, 2, 4 or 6 skinny jeans may not rank all that high either. Those overpriced fuzzy boots that you “just have to have”, well, not significant.

I became a personal trainer to help people. And I hope other trainers got into the business for the same reasons. In a business that seems purely about vanity, it’s easy to get caught up in that. But, it goes deeper. When I first started in the field, I have seen first hand how a loss of muscle can negatively affect a life. I’ve seen how being overweight affects your health and how smoking can impact your future. I advocate for good health for all of those reasons.

But, sometimes it’s not about us. We want good health for the one’s we love because we care about them and want them around for a long time. We want that for them.

More importantly, sometimes people need us. And we can choose to help or look the other way. How we react says a lot about our character.

That’s why at Leverage Fitness Studio, we decided to start “Tim’s Turkey Trot”. On Thanksgiving Day, this year we will be hosting a 5-mile run/walk starting at 9 a.m. that begins and ends at Leverage in Forty-Fort. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Green Guides Program of Hillside Farms.

Green Guides is a nature and animal based education and activities for children with special needs program. Hillside Farms partnered with The Graham Academy and other regional organizations that serve children with developmental, emotional, physical and behavioral challenges.

These kids need our help. If you are interested in running, walking, or donating to this good cause, please visit Leverage Fitness Studio’s Facebook page. You can pre-register online for the run or donate to Hillside Farms. You can also show up at Leverage on race day to participate.
