WILKES-BARRE — City police arrested Jamal Fareed Ford, 39, of Pacific Avenue, West Pittston, on drunken driving charges and struggling with officers on Saturday.

Police allege Ford was in the driver’s seat of a vehicle parked in the middle of North Street near North Wilkes-Barre Boulevard at 12:33 a.m. Saturday, according to the criminal complaint.

Ford had slurred speech, glossy eyes and had a strong odor of alcohol, the complaint says.

Police allege Ford struggled with officers when he was removed from the vehicle and as he was being processed at the Luzerne County DUI Processing Center. Ford allegedly refused to submit to a breath test, police said.

Ford was arraigned Saturday by District Judge Donald Whittaker in Nanticoke on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, resisting arrest, driving without a license and disorderly conduct. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $100,000 bail.
