—LUNCH-SHAMING RESIGNATION — The school superintendent is disputing the account of a cafeteria worker who says she quit over what she considers a “lunch shaming” policy in a Pennsylvania school district.

—UNIVERSITY-NICKNAMES — A university in Pennsylvania is allowing students and workers to use nicknames on some campus records, including student identification cards and emails, in an effort to better allow them to express their identities.

—DRIVER TARGETS CROSSING GUARD — Philadelphia police are looking for a driver who purposely hit a crossing guard after she yelled at him for almost hitting a child with his car.

—ROBBERY SUSPECT FOUND DEAD — A purse-snatching suspect and his mother have been found dead in a northeastern Pennsylvania.

—HOSTAGE STANDOFF-APPARENT SUICIDE — The coroner’s office says a man who refused to surrender while keeping his 2-year-old daughter with him has apparently killed himself in his parents’ central Pennsylvania home.

—INTERSTATE 476 CRASH — The northbound lanes of Interstate 476 near Philadelphia have reopened following a crash involving two tractor-trailers and three other vehicles that injured at least three people.

—FIREFIGHTER-ARSON CHARGES — A former volunteer firefighter in central Pennsylvania has admitted setting four fires last year.

—WOMAN-THROAT SLASHED — Police say they’re searching for the estranged boyfriend of a woman found dead with her throat slashed near her friend’s suburban Philadelphia home.

—SEPTA-RIDERSHIP NUMBERS — Philadelphia’s main transit agency says ridership was down nearly 21 percent in July and 10 percent in August compared to last year.
