WILKES-BARRE - At least he paid his second cab fare.
City police on Saturday arrested Sharndel L. Jackson, 24, of Bronx, N.Y., on charges he robbed a Burgit City Taxi driver at gunpoint and stole the cab on June 30.
Jackson called Burgit City Taxi for a ride on Saturday being picked up by the same driver who recognized him.
Police tracked Jackson to a residence on Woodside Driver where he was arrested.
Jackson was charged with two counts of robbery, and one count each of illegal possession of a firearm, theft, terroristic threats, theft, simple assault and false identification to law enforcement. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $30,000 bail.
According to the criminal complaints:
Burgit Taxi driver William Smith picked up a customer on Hickory Street on June 30. Jackson got into the taxi telling Smith to take him to McDonalds.
While Smith was filling out a log book, Jackson placed a handgun to the back of his head and demanded money, the complaint says.
Jackson allegedly ordered Smith out of the taxi in which he stole and abandoned in the area of Metcalf Street and Ivy Lane where it was recovered.
Police said Smith reported Saturday night that he picked up a man that matched the description of the suspect who robbed him on June 30.
Smith claimed he picked up Jackson on South Empire Street and drove him to Woodside Drive. Jackson paid the fare for the ride and exited the cab.
Police went to a residence on Woodside Drive where Jackson was found in a second floor bedroom., the complaint says.
Jackson allegedly used another name to identify himself, police said.
Police transported Jackson to Kingston Police Headquarters where an electronic fingerprint scan showed his true identity, according to the complaint.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled on July 16.
