WILKES-BARRE – Luzerne County Senior Judge Chester Muroski on Thursday jailed one person and issued warrants for seven others who were found in contempt for allegedly failing to pay child support.
David Terwilliger Jr., Maple Street, Hazleton, was jailed for a failure to pay $8,021.
Those for whom warrants were issued:
Isaac Cooper, Cedar Street, Hazleton, $8,252; Lynne Ropietski, Armstrong Street, Edwardsville, $420; Jason Roberts, Hawthorne Drive, Thornhurst, $2,785; Roy Moore Sr., Laurel Street, Hazleton, $101,951; Sean Davis, Pike Street, Carbondale, $6,165; Jorge Huapaya, Pennsylvania Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, $20,390; and Cerise Roberts, 2nd Street, Plymouth, $16,542.
WILKES-BARRE — A Hughestown man convicted in June of stabbing another man in a Fourth of July fight last year was sentenced Friday to one year, three months to two years, six months in state prison.
Mitchell Lewis Portmess, 23, of Washington Terrace, was found guilty of charges of simple assault, aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, trespassing and two counts of indecent exposure after a Luzerne County jury deliberated for about two and a half hours.
County Judge Lesa Gelb also gave Portmess two years probation.
According to court papers, just before 9 p.m. on July 4, 2012, Portmess assaulted Brian Delaney during a fight. Delaney was stabbed multiple times with broken glass.
Delaney told police that Portmess refused to leave Delaney’s yard and that Portmess removed all of his clothing before attacking him, according to the criminal complaint. During the fight, Delaney’s lip was slashed, and he was stabbed in the lower back.
