ARCHBALD Fall craft fair The Valley View Band and Band Front Parents’
    Association are sponsoring their 5th annual Fall Craft Fair on Saturday,
Sept14. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the cafeteria of
Valley View High School, Columbus Drive, Archbald.
   
More than 50 vendors will be on hand along with hot food, beverages and
homemade desserts.
   
EDWARDSVILLE
   
Phlebotomy/RMA exams location announced
   
Allied Medical and Technical Careers, 104 Woodward Hill Rd., Edwardsville,
has been chosen as the site to administer the National Phlebotomy Examination
as well as the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) Examination. Exam times and
dates plus requirements are as follows:
   
National Phlebotomy — begins at 8 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 7. Anyone
previously trained in phlebotomy is eligible. National certification is
awarded upon successful completion.
   
Candidates are asked to apply in person at Allied Medical Careers,
Edwardsville, or call 288-8400 for further information. All applications must
be completed and returned by Oct. 24.
   
Registered Medical Assistant — starts at 9 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 14.
Applicants must be a graduate of a Medical Assistant Program of Health
Education Schools (ABHES) or a Regional Accrediting Commission or have been
employed in the profession of medical assisting for a minimum of five years.
Upon passing this exam, MA’s are registered by the American Medical
Technologists, Park Ridge, Ill.
   
An application fee of $59 is required. Applications can be obtained at
Allied Medical Careers in Edwardsville and Scranton, or call 288-8400 or
342-8000. The deadline to apply is Oct. 25.

Fund drive under way
   
The Goodwill Hose Co. #1 of Hanover Green is conducting its annual fund
drive. Letters were distributed throughout the Hanover Green, Buttonwood, Korn
Krest, Lincoln Heights, Dundee and Dewey Park areas of Hanover Township.
   
Residents who have not received a donation envelope may mail contributions
payable to: Goodwill Hose Co. #1, 1 Center St., Hanover Green, Wilkes-Barre,
18702, or contact the Hanover Green Fire House and an envelope will be
provided.
   
WILKES-BARRE
   
Skating Club plans annual Arts and Crafts Show
   
The 2nd annual Arts and Crafts Show, sponsored by the Wyoming Valley Ice
Skating Club, will be held Sunday, Sept. 8, at the Coal Street Ice-A-Rama,
Wilkes-Barre. Show hours will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

WYOMING VALLEY
   
Volunteers sought for Thresholds program
   
Volunteers are being recruited for the Thresholds program that begins in
September. Thresholds is a decision-making program that is taught to inmates
at the State Correctional Institution at Dallas who are about to be released
into their various communities.
   
Thresholds is taught by volunteers on a one-to-one basis over a period of
nine weeks. The program, although non-religious, is based on Christian
principles and teachings. The only prerequisite is to be a caring person who
desires to reach out to inmates about to take on a new beginning.

Community Awards Program
   
Chairperson Anna Cervenak, external affairs manager for Bell Atlantic,
announces that applications are available for entry in the annual Pocono
Northeast Community Awards Program (PNCAP). The Pocono Northeast Development
Fund (PNDF), in cooperation with the Economic Development Council of
Northeastern Pennsylvania, is sponsoring the event.
   
The competition recognizes outstanding achievement in community
involvement, cultural enrichment, economic development, environmental action,
health care, human service, recreation/tourism and media/special events.
Projects completed between July 1, 1995, and June 30, 1996, that improved life
in Carbon, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Pike, Schuylkill and Wayne counties
are eligible.
   
Entries must be received by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3. For further details
