The Luzerne County Transportation Authority is adding more trips to its routes, including runs to the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs casino and the Steamtown mall in Scranton beginning today.
“The biggest thing is we added the new Scranton route,” said LCTA Director of Operations Robb Henderson.
The LCTA is adding a 6:35 a.m. departure time from the James F. Conahan Intermodal Center on South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre for Route No. 17, which stops at the Wyoming Valley Mall, Steamtown Mall, Dupont, Avoca, Moosic and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport.
“We had a request from people at the state office building (adjacent to the Steamtown Mall) ask for the additional run. They have Martz bus service available, but they prefer to travel with us,” Henderson said.
Route No. 17 also departs from the Intermodal at 9 and 11 a.m. and 1:55 and 4:05 p.m.
And mostly to accommodate employees at the casino, stops there will be added to Route No. 1 — Miners Mills-Hudson — with the bus departing the Intermodal at 6:35, 5:55 and 8:40 a.m., Henderson said.
On Route No. 8 to Swoyersville, the LCTA dropped stops along Courtdale Avenue after a lack of ridership was observed there for six months. But stops at the Price Chopper in Edwardsville proved popular, he said.
Also, Route No. 7’s 11:10 a.m. departure for the Georgetown section of Wilkes-Barre Township will be removed from the schedule for lack of use. That departure time will be added to the No. 3 Route — Grove & Brown/Heights.
A complete route list can be found on the LCTA’s newly designed website — www.lctabus.com. Riders can also call BUS-TIME (570-287-8463) for scheduling information.
