PRINGLE — West Side Career and Technology Center will host a Careers in Energy event Oct. 30 that will include informational presentations on water treatment, solar and wind energy and hydraulic fracturing.

Representatives from Wilkes University and Lackawanna College will be on hand to provide information regarding post secondary opportunities in the field.

“Such events provide a chance for our students to explore possibilities for the future,” Administrative Director Nancy Tkatch told the Joint Operating Committee on Monday night.

In another matter, Technology Director James Gaydos said bids for wireless equipment and configuration would be accepted until Nov. 8. Two hundred and fifty laptops have been ordered for student use.

“This will definitely improve our wireless infrastructure,” said Gaydos, “allowing to better serve our students informational needs.”

Principal Richard Rava said 56 infractions of disciplinary policy had occurred in September and were dealt with “appropriately and consistently.”

The committee approved a three-year HVAC preventative maintenance contract with Power Engineering.

A proposal to install an electronic forward folding unit to an existing basketball backstop was tabled to gather additional information on pricing.

The next meeting of the committee is scheduled for 6 p.m. Nov. 25.
