Dallas High School basketball player Katy comitz will take her abilities to Division II West Chester University where she will major in nursing. She has received the prestigious WCU Board of Governors full-tuition scholarship, along with an athletic scholarship to attend and play basketball there.
Comitz began playing organized basketball in fourth grade as she participated in the Dallas Youth Basketball program in the Dallas School District. Once she entered seventh grade, she participated in the Middle School/Junior Hugh School basketball porgram.
In ninth grade, Comitz made the high school varsity squad and played junior varisty while getting in to high school games oaccasionally. As a 10th grader, she played junior varsity gagain while her time on the court for varstiy gradutlly increased.
As a junior, Comitz started many games and played a substantial amount of time, making the Wyoming Valley Conference All-Star Third Team. Her career highlight was last year’s conference championship game against Pittston Area and Division I Monmouth Universuty-bound Mia Hopkins. Comitz held Hopkins to a season-low 12 points while scoring 19 points herself as Dallas defaeted Pittrson Area for the conference championship.
Comitz has also played with the AAU team, the FIRM AC, since seventh grade.
When not playing absketball, she has particpated in softball and field hockey at Dallas and was selected as a Wyoming Valley Softbakl Conference All-Star during her sophomore and junior years.
Comitz has made the Honors with Distinction Honor Roll since ninth grade and is a member of the National Honor Society.
