PLAINS TWP. – A program by the Wyoming Valley Concert Band honoring veterans will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday in Liberty Hall, located at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
The event is free and open to the public.

HARRISBURG – To commemorate the 65th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, the U.S. Navy’s Naval Support Activity in Mechanicsburg is planning a memorial program to honor the survivors of the attack on Dec. 7 in Harrisburg.
Rear Adm. Dan H. Stone, who commands the Naval Supply Systems Command, will be the guest speaker at the free event, which is open to the public.
The program is scheduled to begin at 12:55 p.m.

BUTLER TWP. – State Rep. Todd Eachus presented a $10,000 state grant to the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office on Wednesday to purchase unwanted firearms.
Residents in the 116th Legislative District may exchange unwanted firearms for a gift certificate to a department store. The first gun buyback program was held in November 2005 when 105 handguns and 55 rifles were exchanged for gift certificates.
A date and place to turn in unwanted firearms has not been scheduled.
HARVEYS LAKE – Chris Carney will attend a rally at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at the American Legion Hall, state Route 415 and Annabelle Avenue.
The event is one of 13 rallies planned for the weekend as part of the Democrat’s Pennsylvania Values Tour.
BERWICK — The Susquehanna Steam Electric Station will sponsor a presentation by a Greenpeace co-founder at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at Berwick Area High School.
Patrick Moore will discuss the challenges of reducing carbon dioxide emissions and the role nuclear power should have in our energy future.
